Attending the APEC Summit is an opportunity for Vietnam to promote its dynamic, deeply integrated economy toward the goal of “Connectivity-Innovation-Prosperity.” At the event, Vietnam will affirm its role as a responsible and increasingly proactive member in shaping the regional cooperation architecture, preparing to host APEC 2027.
APEC 2025: Building a sustainable future: Connectivity-Innovation-Prosperity
The APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, the main event of the APEC Leaders’ Week chaired by President Lee Jae Myung, will take place on Friday and Saturday, with the attendance of leaders from 21 APEC economies and about 1,700 international business managers. Key topics include AI, sustainable innovation, green finance, and carbon markets, which align with APEC’s theme of building a sustainable future.
Since its founding in 1989, APEC has continued to affirm its position as the leading regional economic cooperation mechanism, focusing on three main pillars: trade and investment liberalization, business facilitation, and economic-technical cooperation. The forum has 21 member economies, including major global economies (the US, China, and Japan), nine G20 members, and emerging and dynamic economies, representing about 37% of the world’s population, contributing 61% of global GDP and 50% of world trade.
This year’s meeting reaffirms APEC’s indispensable role in regional economic cooperation and governance in the Asia-Pacific, linking major global economic centers, maintaining fair and stable trade and investment flows, delivering balanced benefits to all parties, people, and businesses, and promoting economic integration and regional connectivity.
Vietnam’s contributions to APEC
Over 27 years of APEC membership, Vietnam has advocated for regional peace, stability, cooperation, and economic integration, and has been among the most active members in proposing initiatives and projects.
In July this year, Vietnam successfully hosted the 3rd Meeting of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and related activities and finalized policy recommendations for the APEC Leaders’ Meeting.
Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), said: “The APEC Business Advisory Council programs were attended by major enterprises from 21 economies, exchanging ideas related to green transition, digital transformation, trade facilitation, trade liberalization, and international integration. Through these events, Vietnamese businesses had opportunities to establish business connections with foreign partners.”
Vietnam is entering a new stage of development with many ambitious goals. It will play a constructive and substantive role in shaping APEC’s cooperation orientation in the new phase, focusing on issues closely attached to the interests of the people and businesses. Having successfully hosted APEC Leaders’ Weeks in 2006 and 2017, Vietnam is confident to organize APEC 2027 with a new vision, strong determination, and aspiration for breakthrough development.
At the launch ceremony of the National Committee for APEC 2027 in late July this year, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son said: “Amid rapid and complex regional and global changes that require members to remain steadfast with the Forum’s core values and goals, hosting APEC 2027 will be an important test of Vietnam’s leadership and adaptability to turn challenges into opportunities, transform vision into concrete actions, and steer APEC into a new development phase.”
At the APEC in the Republic of Korea, President Luong Cuong will join other leaders in discussing key regional and global issues, outlining cooperation directions in trade, investment, science, technology, innovation, and other fields.
President Cuong will also pay an official visit to the Republic of Korea, demonstrating Vietnam’s support for the APEC host country and strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
