The IMF-WB Annual Meeting 2018 is convened in Indonesia from October 11 to 12 |
Under the theme “Harnessing disruption to shape inclusive economies of the future”, the IMF-WB Annual Meeting 2018 will discuss orientations, policies, and measures to take advantage of technology to promote sustainable growth.
On the sideline of the event, the ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering will discuss ways to promote regional cooperation to achieve sustainable development and narrow development gaps.
Vietnam, a responsible member of ASEAN
Vietnam’s participation in the ASEAN Leaders’ Gathering aims to show that Vietnam is a proactive and responsible member of ASEAN and demonstrate the importance that Vietnam attaches to global multilateral institutions and to host Indonesia, thereby helping to elevate Vietnam’s stature in the region and the world.
At the meeting, the leaders will discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between ASEAN and the UN, the IMF, and the World Bank in reducing poverty, narrowing development gaps, and promoting economic growth and regional integration. They will also discuss ASEAN’s economic situation, prospects, and challenges.
Vietnam will participate in all discussions and work closely with other ASEAN countries to promote cooperation within ASEAN and between ASEAN and the IMF, the WB, and the UN to boost the ASEAN Community building. Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said: “Since Vietnam joined ASEAN, it has been a responsible member of the organization and has contributed to maintaining ASEAN’s solidarity and raising its prestige regionally and globally. Vietnam plans to participate in more multilateral forums but ASEAN remains Vietnam’s top priority.”
Vietnam treasures ties with Indonesia
Vietnam and Indonesia established strategic partnership in 2013. Prime Minister Phuc’s visit to Indonesia, one month after Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s state visit to Vietnam, demonstrates Vietnam’s respect for Indonesia’s role in the region and the world and its wish to boost ties with Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries for peace, stability, solidarity, development and prosperity.
Under the Action Program to Implement the Strategic Partnership in the 2019-2023 period signed last month, Vietnam and Indonesia have agreed to make a concerted effort to raise bilateral trade to 10 billion USD.
