(VOVworld) – Vietnam sent about 110,000 workers abroad in 2016. Labor exports have generated jobs and improved incomes for people, as well as increased foreign currency resources for the nation.

Vietnamese workers are mainly sent to Japan, South Korea, and Germany. Over the past 5 years, the Department of Overseas Labor Management at the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, has contracted with Japan to supply the workforce in the construction and shipbuilding sectors, train Vietnamese workers in the agriculture and fishery sectors in Hokkaido, and teach Japanese to nurses.
Nguyen Ngoc Quynh, Director of the Department of Overseas Labor Management, said: “We’ve sent engineers and nurses to Japan under the Vietnam-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement. Once Japan approves the law on receiving nurses, Vietnamese labor export companies can send more nurses to Japan.”

The Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs have worked with Germany’s Ministry of Economics and Energy to pilot scheme to take in Vietnamese nurses for training and work in Germany. The trainees will receive scholarship of up to 1,000 euros a month for a maximum course of 3 years.
Pham Viet Huong, Deputy Director of the Department of Overseas Labor Management, said: “After the pilot period, we’ll review the results and send more nurses to work as midwives in Germany. We hope the program will offer Vietnamese workers more job opportunities in Germany.” The Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs and South Korea’s Human Resources Development Agency have organized Korean test and skill examinations for Vietnamese fishery workers under Korea’s Employment Permit System.
