With the theme "Regeneration", the contest wants to change the mindset of using materials in an economical, sustainable and optimal way. It means renewing, making the best use of the old values, and fostering the sustainable development process in all industries that exploit natural resources. “Regeneration” shines another life to materials thanks to the imagination of people. In the context of the Covid 19 pandemic, utilizing the available materials also helps realize the dream of a good future of sustainable development.

The “Designed by Vietnam” Contest prioritizes works that showcase Vietnamese characteristics and cultural values using traditional and indigenous materials. Designs that promote techniques, materials and aesthetics of traditional crafts are encouraged.

Designers are also encouraged to search, exploit and apply elements and characteristics of culture, history, ancient industries or local materials, stories of the past and present, modern urban life or emotions from nature to create new innovative products.

Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Director of the Center for Support and Development of Contemporary Arts of VICAS and Head of the Organizing Board, said: "Regeneration does not only mean recycling but also changing mindset in utilizing local cultural and material resources. We want the “Design by Vietnam” contest to become a brand for national design of Vietnam in the coming years to show Vietnam’s rich and potential creativity."
