(VOVworld) - Activities nationwide will mark the 65^th annual War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27. An amended ordinance on people who have rendered service to the revolution was announced this week. Thu Hoa reports.

The highlight of the amended ordinance is that individuals captured or tortured during the revolution will receive monthly support instead of an one-time payment. Heroic mothers and their relatives, revolutionary soldiers suffering from chemical poisons, and individuals with 80 percent working disability will also receive support. Some 90,000 people are estimated to be eligible for support.

The number of people who have rendered great service to the nation is now estimated to be 8.8 million, nearly 10 percent of Vietnam’s population. Policies for those individuals have been completed setting up multiple “paying the debt of gratitude” movements. 95 percent of all communes and hamlets have adopted such a movement. Ministries, Sectors, and localities have all organized activities to support the families of people who have rendered great service to the nation. Nguyen Duc Hai is Secretary of Quang Nam’s Party Committee: "Our province has implemented a number of activities to support policy beneficiaries and those who have rendered great service in disadvantaged areas. We have stepped up our subsidized housing program and have been closely monitoring implementation of these policies".

With the support of the Party and State and people, many war invalids and those who have rendered great service to the nation have exerted their best effort in study and work, which has considerably improved the living standards of their families. Duong Thi Mong is a policy beneficiary: "We should do our best to deserve the Party and State’s assistance. We should also educate our children to become worthy of what their predecessors have done".

Over the years, the Party and State of Vietnam have continued to adopt policies supporting those who have rendered great service in line with the Vietnam’s socio-economic development. President Truong Tan Sang: "The lives of many families of war invalids and martyrs are still very difficult. The 11^th Party Congress Resolution resolved to mobilize every resource to further improve their lives. We should also create the best possible conditions for them to participate in Vietnam’s economic development".

By 2013, all the policies on people who have rendered great service to the nation will be implemented nationwide. The State has earmarked another 700 billion VND in housing support for those people. The total budget for those programs is estimated to be more than 36 trillion VND by 2013.
