Vietnam has issued a number of policies to help persons with disabilities integrate in the community and improve their lives, to guarantee and promote their role, and to contribute to social advancement and sustainable development. Vocational training programs aiming to generate stable jobs for persons with disabilities have been widely implemented.
In the past five years, the Vietnam Association in Support of Vietnamese Handicapped and Orphans and its member organizations have supported 16 million people.
Sectors and localities have worked to create equal opportunities for disabled people, to guarantee their legitimate rights, and to promote their various abilities.
Pham Dai Dong, Head of the Social Protection Policy Department of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, said: “The Ministry has directed localities to effectively implement policies for disabled people. We continue to work with sectors and localities to resolve pending issues and provide consultancy for disabled people to access public transportation and public works, cultural and sport events.”
Outdated policies on supporting disabled people will be renewed to meet current and future needs.
