In Ha Giang province, economic development movements have contributed to boosting the provincial economic growth rate to 7% and reducing the provincial poverty rate from 44% in 2015 to 23% in 2020.

Agricultural programs have promoted intensive farming to increase land use efficiency, switching to more profitable plant varieties and breeding animals, applying new technology, consolidating production areas, and creating a network of production, processing, and distribution.

Nguyen Thi Lan Dung, General Director of the Gia Long Company in Xin Man district, HaGiang province, said: “I want to help farmers in remote, mountainous areas develop their household economy. For 20 years I have been helping farmers move from mere self-sufficiency to commercial production to sell to businesses. We have connected farmers, businesses, and scientists and bought their produce wholesale.”

Nguyen Trong Thai, head of a production team at the Ha Lam Coal Company, an affiliate of the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group, and his colleagues have proposed hundreds of initiatives to raise productivity and protect workers’ health.

“We have actively responded to patriotic emulation movements and spread the involvement to all workers. Our role models are our senior staff, who have been honored as labor heroes and emulation vanguards,” Thai said.

The “Whole country joins hands in new rural development” movement spurred the National Target Program on New Rural Development in the 2010-2020 period to complete two years ahead of schedule.

The “Whole country joins hands for the poor – leaving no one behind” movement has promoted solidarity in the community and made Vietnam one of the first countries to achieve the Millennium Development Goal on quick poverty reduction. Vietnam’s poverty rate fell sharply from 9.2% in 2016 to less than 3% in 2020. The “Vietnamese businesses’ integration and development movement has improved the business environment, reduced difficulties for businesses, mapped out programs and plans to support startups, promoted trade, and supported technological innovation.
