(VOVWORLD) - The Khau Vai Love Market Festival in Meo Vac district, Ha Giang province, is open, with the theme “Khau Vai – the Return Day” from Tuesday to Thursday. Held annually to promote the traditions of the ethnic minority communities on the Dong Van Karst Plateau, this year the festival is part of a series of celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and national reunification.

The Khau Vai Love Market Festival has existed for more than 100 years. It convenes on the 27th day of the third lunar month, when women and men put on their best traditional attire and go to the market.

An opening ceremony will take place at the Meo Vac district central square on Tuesday evening, followed by performances of the Mông panpipe, Nùng folk singing, Lo Lo fire dances, and Giáy dancing with swords, drums, conical hats, and scarves.

Hoang Huy Hanh of the Meo Vac district Tourism Association said there are also sports competitions. “We’re organizing a marathon in which 160 participants from 18 communes will compete.”

Visitors will enjoy a nightingale singing contest, a glutinous rice cake pounding competition, and traditional folk games like throwing cloth balls, shuttlecock, and climbing a pole. In the evening, visitors can browse the Meo Vac night market and watch performances at the Mong cultural tourism village in Pa Vi Ha hamlet.

Ha Giang province offers adventure activities such as exploring the Stone Maze in Khau Vai commune, taking a boat ride on the Nho Que River to admire the Tu Sản Gorge, or trekking up the White Cliff.

On Wednesday evening, a Love Blessing Ceremony will be held at the Grandfather and Grandmother Temple in Khau Vai commune. Le Khac Lam, Vice Chairman of Meo Vac district, said: “At Lo Lo Chai cultural tourism village, residents have been rehearsing art performances, the peach garden has been spruced up, and people are ready for festivities.”

The three-day Khau Vai Love Market Festival is preserving ethnic traditions and promoting tourism to friends near and far.
