(VOVWORLD) - To build momentum for a new era – an era of national rise – Vietnam is focusing on three strategic breakthroughs, with an emphasis on transportation infrastructure. Several key national transportation projects are being fast-tracked with strong public support and the full commitment of the government, ministries, sectors, and localities.

Vietnam aims to complete 50 transportation projects this year, including the eastern part of the North-South Expressway, and sections of the Ho Chi Minh Road. Key aviation projects to be completed this year include Terminal T3 of the Tan Son Nhat International Airport and the runway at Long Thanh International Airport.
Government directives
By the end of 2024, Vietnam had completed more than 2,000 kilometers of expressway. It intends to construct another 3,000 kilometers of expressway in the next 500 days.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was busy throughout the Lunar New Year holiday inspecting key national projects. His visits have motivated the transportation sector, contractors, and workers and encouraged a spirit of "discuss only work, no backtracking".
Inspecting the Ho Chi Minh City-Thu Dau Mot-Chon Thanh expressway construction project in Binh Duong province on February 1, the Prime Minister said: “Binh Phuoc province, Ho Chi Minh City, and Binh Duong need to finish connecting the road from Dak Nong to Chon Thanh before the end of this quarter. This is an urgent task. All units must follow the Prime Minister’s leadership and instructions to deliver results and fulfill our promise. We must accelerate the work.”
Prime Minister Chinh asked the authorities of Dong Nai province to complete construction of Long Thanh Airport by the end of 2025 at the latest.
Those are just two of the directives the Prime Minister gave while inspecting key national transportation projects over the past few days. The Prime Minister emphasized the need to comprehensively develop modern strategic infrastructure to reduce logistics and input costs, improve the competitiveness of products, businesses, and the economy, and expand development.
Upholding the highest sense of responsibility
Implementing the government’s directives, the Ministry of Transport and its member enterprises and contractors have set specific tasks and solutions to ensure progress and quality.
Pham Van Khoi, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of the Phuong Thanh Transport Joint Stock Company, said: “Under the Prime Minister's direction, we have taken advantage of favorable weather to ensure construction progress. We are vigorously implementing projects that don’t depend on land and materials. Our biggest advantage is that the Party and the State are allocating large capital resources to infrastructure. Enterprises have incentives to speed up the construction of expressway projects.”
Tran Hoang Tuan, Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai province’s People's Committee, said the province is working to realize the goal of building 3,000 kilometers of the North-South Expressway in the next 500 days by completing the 60 kilometers of the project located within Quang Ngai province.
“Each agency has its own responsibility and capital will be regulated between projects if any fails to ensure its progress. The authorities are determined to speed up the projects,” said Tuan.
The revised Land Law 2024, which specifies regulations on site clearance and people's rights in large projects, has gotten public consensus and contributed to accelerating the progress of the projects.
In 40 years of national renewal, Vietnam's transportation infrastructure has developed from no expressways to more than 2,000 kilometers of expressway. Thanks to policies and guidelines, appropriate allocations for transportation projects, and the government’s close supervision and strong direction, Vietnam is confident to complete 3,000 kilometers of expressways this year and 5,000 kilometers by 2030.
