Ho Chi Minh City honors outstanding young citizens

(VOVWORLD) -The Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union on Monday honored 14 exemplary young people for their patriotism, dynamism, creativity and contributions to national development.

The honorees excelled in science, education, public administration, armed forces, the arts, culture, sports, startups, and youth associations in 2023.

They illustrate the spirit of "Aspiration-Vanguard-Knowledge-Courage" of young people who live responsibly in their personal life and in their work, have creative minds, and are eager to apply advanced technology, pursue their dreams, and confidently integrate globally.

Associate Professor Dr. Le Thanh Long, a lecturer at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology of Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, was honored as an exemplary teacher and researcher in information technology, digital transformation, and automation. He has also made contributions to the community work of the Youth Union.

Nguyen Van Khanh Phong is a gymnast who won a gold medal at the 32nd SEA Games and a silver medal at the Asian Championship last year.

Le Nam Long, a 7th grader at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary School, was the youngest awardee. Since 2020 he has won 22 gold medals, 12 silver medals, and 15 bronze medals at national and international math, science, and informatics contests.

Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Phan Van Mai commended the youth, saying “We are delighted with the growth of the city's outstanding young citizens. As members of the Youth Union and Student Association, they connect with other young intellectuals at home and abroad to form a large network that contributes their intellect to the city’s construction and development.”

151 outstanding young citizens of Ho Chi Minh City have been honored over the past 18 years.
