Tran Thi Thuy Lan, deputy head of the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and the Hanoi Old Quarter, said the exhibition “Hanoi in me” aims to educate and inspire pride of the capital city among young residents:

“The photo exhibition depicts Hanoi’s history over the last 70 years, from the subsidy period to economic integration and development. Hanoi has now become a city of peace,” said Lan.

The photographs cover events in the capital such as President Ho Chi Minh and other Party and State leaders interacting with the people.

Photographer and journalist Tran Hong said: “I took a black and white photo I call "Grandma comes home". It was in 1973 during the subsidy period and I had just graduated from school. I lived on the 3rd floor of a house at 8 Ly Nam De street. In the afternoon, I often witnessed a beautiful scene when a grandmother came home from the market and her grandchildren ran out to greet her. I took a black and white backlit photo full of emotion. I love it.”

The photos are valuable documentation of the renewal process in Hanoi. We’re proud of the capital’s beauty and its steadily improving material and cultural life.”

The photo exhibition “Hanoi in me” is a tribute to Hanoi to mark its 70th Liberation Day anniversary. The exhibition will be open until October 29 in the pedestrian space around Hoan Kiem lake.
