(VOVWORLD) -Scores of passenger planes and military aircraft were on display at this year’s Paris Air Show. The event took place at Le Bourget airport on the outskirts of Paris from June 19 to 25. Although the number of visitors was reduced from previous years, contracts signed at the Show increased 13%.

The Paris Air Show is the world’s biggest event of its kind introducing technological advancements in the aviation sector.

Emeric d’Arcimoles, Paris Air Show CEO, said the event welcomed 140,000 professional visitors, a 6 per cent drop from two years ago.  He attributed the reason to tight security in the wake of several terror attacks in France and airline expenditure cutouts.

However, contracts signed at the Show reached 150 billion USD, 20 billion USD higher than in the previous two events. Boeing and Airbus took the lion's share of orders with 75 billion USD and 40 billion USD respectively. Boeing outperformed Airbus with its new 737 MAX 10 airliner, taking in a total of more than 570 orders. However, Airbus won a big order from Iran's Zagros Airlines for 20 planes of the A320neo family and eight of the A330neo type.

The show saw a potential lucrative market for Internet access on planes, which could boom when specialized satellites are placed in orbit. Paris Air Lab, a new forum dedicated to research, brought in 50,000 visitors and allowed a number of start-up firms to book their first orders.
