Launched last July in coordination with the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Association, the jury of the 2024 Bao Son Awards selected the most 4 outstanding projects among 28 submissions.

They are the research and production of a vaccine for African swine fever, conducted by Dr. Nguyen Van Diep, General Director of AVAC Vietnam JSC; the research and application of endoscopic surgery in the treatment of thyroid diseases, conducted by Labor Hero, People's Doctor, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Ngoc Luong; the research and application of advanced three-phase composite materials and structures by Professor, Doctor of Science Nguyen Dinh Duc; and the project “The history of policy for ethnic affairs of the Vietnamese communists” by Professor, Dr. Furuta Motoo, Rector of the Vietnam–Japan University, under the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Dr. Nguyen Van Diep, General Director of AVAC Vietnam JSC, said: "Vietnam is the first country in the world to successfully produce a vaccine for African swine fever. We have exported the vaccine to the Philippines and Indonesia. Mastering vaccine technology allows us to extend product life cycles or develop new products, especially as diseases and pathogens continuously evolve, which requires us to have early preventive solutions."

For the first time, the Bao Son Award was granted to a foreign scientist. Professor, Dr. Vu Minh Giang, Vice Chairman of the Bao Son Awards Council, said: "This year’s Bao Son Awards did not restrict nationality of participants. Anyone from any country can participate, as long as their scientific work serves Vietnam’s interests. This is a new feature of the Bao Son Awards."

Each of the four winners of the 2024 Bao Son Awards received a prize worth 120,000 USD. The prize value will increase by 10,000 USD annually.
