(VOVworld) – Activities are taking place at home and abroad to mark the 70^th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army. At a celebration held by the Vietnamese Embassy in Indonesia on Thursday, Ambassador Nguyen Xuan Thuy stressed the importance of army modernization, noting that it’s urgent to develop the national army’s power and potential in accordance with Vietnam’s development and relations with other countries in the 21^st century. He reiterated Vietnam’s defense policies of no military alliance, no foreign military presence on Vietnamese territory, and no relationship with one country to be used against a third country. He said Vietnam hailed the cooperation and mutual support between the two armies and peoples of Vietnam and Indonesia, saying the two armies’ close relationship has contributed to tightening the friendship established and consolidated by President Ho Chi Minh and President Sukarno.

A ceremony was also held in Paris, France, to mark the event.
