(VOVWORLD) - The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), in collaboration with Can Tho city’s Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Coca-Cola Foundation, held an event to discuss ways to advance sustainable financing for hybrid nature-based solutions to strengthen resilience of the coastal areas in the Mekong Delta.

The event was part of a project to boost the region’s resilience through mangrove restoration and hybrid nature-based approaches.

As of the end of November, the project has supported 21 farms in transiting to multi-species recirculating aquaculture systems combined with mangrove restoration.

Mr. Do Van Thua, Deputy Head of the Can Tho City Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance Sub-Department, said: “Since the project was launched a year ago, we have coordinated with agricultural and economic departments, and local authorities to hold community meetings and select households to participate in the model. So far, participating households have been equipped with system installations and provided with design guidance.”

Based on the project’s initial results, experts introduced the Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture Recirculating System (IMTA-RAS) to the community as well as the environmental and economic benefits that they bring about. These efforts raise public awareness of nature-based solutions and sustainable aquaculture practices.
