At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center, introduced Vietnam's maritime search and rescue force and its achievements over the past years. Mr. Lim said that the International Maritime Organization (IMO) can deploy training courses and investment projects to upgrade science and technology to support Vietnam’s search and rescue activities at sea.

On Thursday, Mr. Lim visited Hai Phong Newport International Container Terminal of Saigon Newport Corporation.
The IMO is the UN specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. IMO now has 175 member states and 3 associate members.
This is the first official visit of an IMO Secretary-General to Vietnam since Vietnam became a member of IMO in 1984.
