(VOVworld) - 10 years ago, the most frequent question asked by young people hanging out together was “Where should we go to eat?” The cafes, food courts, and restaurants that were popping up in Hanoi back then were a satisfactory answer to that question. Today, when young people get together, the question is: “Where should we play?” Dóo Entertainment, a new high-tech entertainment and recreation venue, is possibly the best answer to that question.  Located at 1 Luong Yen Street, Ha Noi Creative City promises to provide a special zone for artistic and creative activities

The day Hanoi Creative City opened at No.1 Luong Yen street in Hanoi in early September, Doo Entertainment on the complex’s 6th and 7th floors was a complete mystery to most of those attending the event. Before the opening only 50 had been invited to come in and test the games there.

Doo Entertainment complex is a centerppiece of Hanoi Creative City, a new special zone for artistic and creative activities in Hanoi. Doo will officially open on September 19. Tran Hoang Kim, one of the founders of Doo, told VOV: "The idea to establish this high-tech entertainment and recreation center started as a simple wish to find a recreation space for young Hanoians - I mean a real playground. It’s common for many people, especially young people, to spend their leisure time at cafes, cinemas, bars, or clubs.  I wanted to create a playground where youth can move around and play active, creative games, and let them really play at games like baseball, air swimming, mountain climbing, archery, and even smashing dishes to release stress."

We saw 5 young people excitedly participating in Johann Sebastian Joust, a no-graphics, digitally-enabled playground game designed for motion controllers.

The goal is to be the last player remaining. When the music — J.S. Bach's ‌Brandenburg Concertos — plays in slow-motion, the controllers are very sensitive to movement. When the music speeds up, the threshold becomes less strict, giving the players a small window to dash at their opponents. If your controller is ever moved beyond the allowable threshold, you're out! You must try to jostle your opponents' controllers while protecting your own. Tran Hoang Kim elaborates on the criteria used to select games for the Doo zone: "I spent one year setting out criteria to select games for this zone. First, selected games must be healthy. You can see there are no computer games here. All the games are supposed to encourage young people to move around a lot. And along with physical movement, players are encouraged to think to play. Second, these games often recall childhood memories. Any of us might once have dreamed of practicing archery and being a hero like Robin Hood. And third, games are designed to encourage groups of people to play and laugh together, like Joust. I like this game a lot, because in addition to promoting group play, it brings classical music closer to the public."

Nguyen Quang Huy, a third-year student at Hanoi University of Technology was one of the 50 youths chosen to test the games at Doo Entertainment: "I came here at 9 am and have already tested most the games which I think are very interesting, yet pretty new to young people like us. Some games I have never played before. I think it’s gonna be a great place for young Hanoians to come and play."

Nguyen Hong Nhung from Viet Duc High School is another of the beta testers: "I think this space is very cool. There were no places with games like this in Hanoi before. Some of the games I saw for the first time in Hanoi like archery and baseball. Normally, young people like us spend time at cafes chatting or going to cinemas."
