World Environment Day celebrated in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has organized diverse activities to respond to World Environment Day, June 5.

A Species Conservation Fund with a total budget of 1.4 million USD made it debut on Sunday. The fund was established and sponsored by the Project on Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Vietnam (VFBC) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The Fund covers the message of this year’s World Environment Day – “Conservation of biodiversity and wildlife worldwide is an urgent task".

The Fund's objective is to enhance biodiversity conservation in Vietnam through promoting coordination of local conservation organizations.

On Saturday, Da Nang city launched a program calling for joint actions for a "Green Earth" to respond to World Environment Day and Vietnam Sea and Islands Week this year.

Da Nang has also launched action months for the environment and Vietnam’s seas and islands week from early this month covering more than 48 activities and events. The main activities include an international conference and an exhibition on waste treatment solutions and technologies to ensure sustainable development in urban areas in Vietnam plus environmental sanitation activities throughout the city.

On Saturday, the Environmental Protection Fund and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Binh Dinh province and Quy Nhon Trade Center jointly organized a day for household waste collection and presenting gifts for people in Quy Nhon city. Local people in Quy Nhon city are urged to use hazardous waste in exchange for 1,000 gifts being OCOP products of Binh Dinh such as organic rice, dried vermicelli, De Gi fish sauce, Agribio mushrooms, and La's Farm melons.   

On Saturday at Luu Huu Phuoc Park, the Youth Union of Can Tho city held an event calling on children to protect the environment. During the event, various activities including drawing painting and competitions on environmental protection were held.
