The three-day event co-organized by the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) and Inter-Parliamentary Union attracted the participation of 60 scientists and young parliamentarians from 18 countries.

The workshop includes discussions on science and politics, multilateral, regional and bilateral water diplomacy for transboundary water cooperation, human rights-based approach to water security and peace, innovation in water technology for water security, and promoting water security through citizen science.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Hai, Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly said Vietnam has taken a number measures to assure water security, including issuing more than 100 legal documents regarding the management of water resources. Vietnam’s National Assembly has also made proposals and joined IPU’s global initiatives.

Hai said: “Delegations need to work together and discuss measures to deal with the challenges. It is essential to draw practical lessons and focus on these themes: Water and world peace, Law and best practices, Parliamentary Network on Water, the case studies on Vietnam, the Middle East, Africa, and cooperation for a water project. We hope that delegations will soon reach a common goal in the coming time.”
