Vu Lan Festival in full swing in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - This year, the 7th full moon festival, also known as Parents' Day in Vietnam, falls on Wednesday (August 30). This is a traditional Buddhist festival aimed at showing gratitude to parents. On this occasion, many humanitarian activities are held.

A program featuring the theme “Mother” was held at the Vesak International convention center in Tam Chuc Pagoda, Ha Nam province. It featured Buddhist spiritual rituals, candle lighting, a prayer offering ceremony , and art performances.

The Executive Board and Charity Department of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Ho Chi Minh City presented 1,000 gift sets to poor people in the city.

Buddhist monks, nuns and followers and charity groups have organized blood donations while volunteer doctors provided free medical examination and medicines  to workers in Linh Trung Industrial Park in Thu Duc city.

More than 120 temples and pagodas across Da Nang city engaged in charity activities on this occasion.

Most Venerable Thich Quang Tam, a member of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Da Nang, said this year's Vu Lan festival is more special than in previous years.

“Many charity activities were held during the festival, demonstrating the uniqueness of Buddhism. This year, we’ve also organized summer retreats for students, helping them understand more about filial piety towards their parents,” said Most Venerable Tam.
