The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the National Innovation Center, and the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).

Vietnam is considered a country with a dynamic innovative ecosystem thanks to the rapid development of the digital economy and strong growth of the high-tech sector.

Vietnam is proving itself as a new economic growth center of Asia with a firm position in the global supply chain, continuously receiving investment from multinational corporations, said Minister Dung.

He said the Government has assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to coordinate with relevant ministries, sectors, agencies, and local businesses to develop a project to develop human resources for the semiconductor industry by 2030.

“We plan to train 50,000 engineers for the industry. I believe that the SIA Chairman and member businesses will receive lots of positive information to quickly make decisions to invest in Vietnam,” said Dung, adding, “All that means the Vietnamese Government is ready to welcome US semiconductor investors to Vietnam and demonstrate the Vietnamese determination to cooperate in the semiconductor industry."

Established in 1997, SIA is a network of businesses that account for 99% of US semiconductor industry revenue, two-thirds of which are foreign semiconductor enterprises.

John Neuffer, the SIA President, affirmed that many SIA member companies have significantly invested in Vietnam, including Intel, Marvell, Synopsys, Qualcomm, Ampere, Infineon, and many more. 

“Many are doubling down on their investments. When I was here in late October, we had the pleasure to visit Amkor’s impressive, new facility in Bac Ninh.  Earlier this year in May, Marvell announced that it would set up the world's largest design and R&D center in Ho Chi Minh City. These investments are a testament to Vietnam’s pivotal and growing role in the global semiconductor supply chain,” said Neuffer.

At the meeting, SIA members and Vietnamese localities and businesses discussed the infrastructure conditions needed to meet the requirements of semiconductor industry businesses.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and Vietnamese localities and businesses and the SIA discussed Vietnam’s business investment environment, infrastructure conditions in electricity, water, and transportation, and preferential policies in industrial parks, economic zones, and high-tech zones.
