Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc and US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink signed the deal at a ceremony in Hanoi last Friday.

Phuc said the program will help Vietnamese schools improve the quality of their English teaching.

The agreement covers cooperation, criteria and the number of volunteers during the first 2 years of a pilot project, the schools that will receive volunteers, and the content of the volunteer activities.

The US will send 20 volunteers each year to teach English in Vietnam. After a year of training in culture, language, and teaching skills, volunteers will teach English at high schools in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh Minh City, and later expand their teaching to the university level.
