The project, which received 20 million USD in non-refundable aid provided by the RoK government, is underway in the central provinces of Quang Binh and Binh Dinh. The project has helped remove bombs, mines and explosives on over 8000 ha of land in the two localities.

The project includes 4 components, namely technical survey and bomb and mine clearance, support for bomb and mine victims, and education to raise the people’s awareness towards the prevention of bomb and mine accidents, and support for the system of information about post-war bomb and mine clearance.

Colonel Nguyen Van Nghiep, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Mine Action Centre (VNMAC), said 150,000 people, including students at the two localities, have been educated on the danger of bombs and land mines, while hundreds of victims of UXO have been provided free equipment for rehabilitation.

"The project has brought about practical benefits for the two provinces of Quang Binh and Binh Dinh. It has surveyed 20,000 ha of land and removed UXO from 8,000 ha of land, while ensuring livelihoods and creating jobs for more than 1,000 UXO disabled people. We have also carried out programs to educate vulnerable people, especially younger ones, to raise their awareness on preventing accidents caused by UXO," said Colonel Nghiep.
