At the launching ceremony, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Duong Tan Hien emphasized that Can Tho City should focus on community movements to clean up the environment, plant trees, and improve the urban environment and residential landscapes, such as lakes, rivers, canals, and ditches.

Besides activities to clean up the environment, Can Tho City should also enhance communications to raise public awareness of protecting resources, building a sustainable, friendly lifestyle in harmony with nature, conserving biodiversity, and adapting to climate change. The city also sets the goals for strict management of waste and waste treatment and promoting circular economic models toward green economic development and sustainable development.

Dzeneta Mulabegovic, a UNDP representative, said the program calls for all individuals and organizations to join the "Green Warriors, Clean Technology" program to prevent plastic waste at source and create space for life.

The World Cleanup Day was initiated by Australia in 1993 and launched globally in the third week of September. More than 180 countries have responded to the campaign. Vietnam has marked the Day since 1994.
