(VOVWORLD) - Dianmu storm landed in northern Vietnam on Friday, leaving one person dead and two missing. Head of the Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Control and Prevention, Nguyen Xuan Cuong, has asked northern provinces to stay high alert as the storm caused heavy rains and flash floods.

Cuong called for irrigation efforts to protect crops and reservoir safety: “Provinces from Nghe An to the north should closely monitor areas prone to flash floods and landslides to guide local people to safety. 28 reservoirs have been filled up with water. We need contingency plans to navigate flood water and protect crops.”

Soldiers in Luong Son district, Hoa Binh province have evacuated a dozen of flood victims to safe area. Evacuation plan is well underway in Nghe An province’s Ky Son district.

Nguyen Thanh Hoang who heads the local search and rescue team said: “Troops and police officers have been mobilized to help evacuate flood victims. When water recedes, we will support affected households with funding to help their lives return to normal.”

Thanh Hoa province aimed to restore traffic in flooded areas by Saturday.
