Vietnam reaffirms determination to protect world natural, cultural heritages

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam celebrated 50 years of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage with a ceremony in the northern province of Ninh Binh on Tuesday.

The event was attended by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay, and foreign ambassadors of World Heritage Committee member countries.

In his address, Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung said Vietnam has paid special attention to preserving and protecting world heritage sites and is mobilizing resources for this effort. He said the local community is enjoying benefits from tourism at world heritage sites.

Minister Hung said: "The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and localities nationwide are focused on the global goals of strengthening the protection and ensuring safety for UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritages and Intangible Cultural Heritages which are listed at the National Action Program to implement the Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development. We also focus on UNESCO Policy on integrating sustainable development perspective in the Convention Concerning World Heritages."
