(VOVworld) – Nguyen Phuong Nga, Ambassador and Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to the UN, restated Vietnam’s strong commitment to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter at an open debate at the Security Council on Monday.
The debate on “Maintenance of international peace and security: Reflect on history, reaffirm the strong commitment to the purposes and principles of the Charter of the UN” was organized at China’s initiative. China is the rotating presidency of the Security Council for the month of February.
Nga highlighted Vietnam’s active contributions to common efforts towards regional and international peace, stability and security. She called on the Security Council and UN members to realize the charter’s key commitments and principles with a focus on equality in national sovereignty and territorial integrity in the internal affairs of other countries, and the peaceful settlement of international disputes.
The Ambassador said Vietnam was working closely with other ASEAN members and its partners to develop and adhere to mutually agreed principles and codes of conduct, and settle all disputes, including the East Sea issue, by peaceful means, in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
