A Vietnamese Representative made the statement at the 25th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday. At this meeting, participants discussed the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action to ensure and advance human rights.
The Vietnamese Representative said lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people need to be supported to achieve their legitimate aspirations to enjoy gender equality and social integration. The Vietnamese representative called on the international community to maintain an open dialogue, eliminate discrimination against the LGBT community, and protect their legitimate rights.
Vietnam’s statement was part of a discussion of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action on human rights, adopted by the UN in 1993, which affirms that human rights are for everybody.
