(VOVworld)-Vietnamese Buddhist functionaries and lay people have enjoyed favorable conditions to practice their region, according to a seminar on state management on the performance of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS). Wednesday’s meeting in Hanoi noted that since its coming into being more than 3 decades ago, the VBS has persistently adhered to its motto “Dharma, the nation and socialism”, and joined hands with other religions in national construction and defense. The Sangha has actively responded to charity and social activities by supporting the poor, victims of natural calamities and disadvantaged students. Quite a few Buddhist dignitaries and followers have been elected to people’s councils at different levels. Most Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, Vice President and Secretary General of the VBS Executive Council said: “The establishment of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha more than 30 years ago was a landmark in the development of Buddhism in Vietnam and demonstrated Vietnam’s policy on religious freedom and belief. VBS branches have been set up all over the country while Buddhist charity organizations are also taking shape.”
