The festival saw the participation of 12,000 people and is expected to collect 5,000 units of blood. Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh played a drum to launch the festival and presented flowers to doctors and nurses working at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in anticipation of Vietnam’s Physicians’ Day on February 27. Nguyen Van Quy, Deputy Chairman of Hanoi’s People’s Committee, addressed the event: "There’s a huge need for blood for treatment in Vietnam. Blood donation activities and campaigns are much needed and should be organized effectively by concerned agencies to ensure patients’ timely access to blood for treatment at hospitals across Hanoi. I urge every city dweller to take part in blood donation campaigns to save lives."
