Fifteen provinces and cities have completed their plans of housing elimination, according to updates presented at the fourth meeting of the Central Steering Committee for the nationwide elimination of makeshift and dilapidated houses on Sunday.

Chairing the online meeting from the Government Headquarters in Hanoi, connected to 63 provinces and centrally-run cities, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, who also heads the Committee, praised the results, saying that each new house is a gift, a gesture of love, and a meaningful home that symbolizes responsibility, compassion, national solidarity, and community sharing.

Reaffirming the goal that no one should live in unsafe or dilapidated conditions, the Prime Minister set a target to basically eliminate makeshift houses nationwide by October 31, 2025.

He reiterated the guiding motto: “Everyone lends a hand. Each family contributes what they can, whether labor, money, or resources. The people create history.”

Noting that 61,800 makeshift or dilapidated houses still remain, he called for diversified sources and broad community involvement. Priority will be given to completing housing support for families of martyrs before War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27, and for national contributors before National Day on September 2.

The Prime Minister also urged maximum engagement of all forces, particularly the military and police.
