Nguyen Van Hoi, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, who is Vice Chairman of the National Committee for Persons with Disabilities, said that Vietnamese persons with disabilities have always been cared for by the State.
The rights of persons with disabilities have been specified in the Constitution and many laws as well as international treaties that Vietnam has signed. The number of persons with disabilities having access to the State’s incentives and caring programs has been steadily increasing.
This year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, themed “Sports – Integration – Rising”, promotes sports movement for persons with disabilities to improve their health and social integration. 35 provinces and cities in Vietnam regularly organize sports movements for persons with disabilities.
Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said: “The sports movement of persons with disabilities has developed strongly to encourage less fortunate people to participate in physical training and sports, integrate into the community, and contribute their talents, strength, and intelligence to the achievements of Vietnamese persons with disabilities in the international arena.”
The Organizing Committee awarded the Labor Order, third class of the State President to 22 coaches and athletes with disabilities and presented the Prime Minister's Certificates of Merit to 11 coaches and athletes for their outstanding achievements at the 12th Southeast Asian Para Games in Cambodia in June.
