(VOVworld) – The Presidential Office today/ on Thursday held a press briefing with domestic and foreign reporters to announce an amnesty for over 15,000 prisoners nationwide.

On the occasion of the National Day, September 2nd, 15,446 prisoners, including 16 foreigners, will be released ahead of their prison terms and 77 others will have their imprisonment postponed. The spokesperson for the Presidential Office said the procedures to select prisoners for amnesty were conducted strictly without discrimination towards any prisoner and regardless of their nationalities. General Le Quy Vuong, Deputy Minister of Public Security spoke about measures to integrate the pardoned in to society. "Amnesty is an important policy of the Party and State. The Government has issued decree 80 defining measures to reintegrate the pardoned into society. To prepare for the amnesty, we have trained and provided them with information to return to society. We have asked localities to create jobs for them and support them in their return to normal life. The work has been carried out successfully over the past few years."
Since the amnesty of 2009 to 2011, 0.83% of the pardoned people returned to crime. The results show the effective implementation of re-education, amnesty, and social reintegration.
