The final competition opened with the performance called “Dances of the world” where stunning Miss World hopefuls took to the stage in native dress to compete for the crown in the 69th annual competition. Some 111 contestants from countries including Scotland, Japan, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago donned costumes reflecting their homelands as they performed at the ExCeL convention centre in east London. Miss Vietnam Luong Thuy Linh performed a dance with a golden tray, a folklore art form associated with Vietnam’s worship of Mother Goddess.

23 year-old winner Toni Ann Singh is a women’s studies and psychology student at Florida State University who aspires to be a medical doctor. She mesmerised the audience with her amazing song by singing Whitney’s classic song I have Nothing.

“I think I represent something special, a generation of women that are pushing forward to change the world. I would not say I’m different from any other women on this stage but I will say that mypassion for women and point into them and making sure they have the same opportunity that I’ve had is something that set me apart,” said Toni Ann Singh.
