Tết Nguyên tiêu or the First Full Moon festival, which falls on the 15th of the first lunar month, is an important festival for Hoi An people.
The festival embraces the convergence of Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese cultures. During the festival, Hoi An people show their respect to the Buddhas, Gods, Genies and ancestors and pray for a prosperous and happy life.
On this occasion, Hoi An city organizes many special programs including Old town night, First Full Moon poetry night, worshiping ceremony, folk games, and performances of Tuong classical opera, Bai Choi singing, showcases of calligraphy, and ceramic mask painting.
