The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on Sunday ordered ministries, sectors, and localities to deliver aid and daily necessities to affected people so that no one is left in hunger, cold, and illnesses. They were asked to review local houses and infrastructure damaged by flooding and landslides and evacuate people from high-risk areas.

The Committee asked for a close watch of super typhoon Goni, the strongest typhoon of 2020, which is forecast to approach Vietnam on Wednesday. Authorities need to keep fishing vessels operating offshore updated with the storm track to avoid dangerous zone, get search and rescue forces ready around the clock, maintain road and rail traffic, strictly monitor fishing farms, and protect coastal works, the Committee said.       

Typhoon Molave which slammed central Vietnam on Wednesday left 29 dead and 51 missing. Quang Nam suffered the biggest death toll: 23 people dead and 24 still missing. 23 people on two fishing vessels in Binh Dinh lost contact. 10 were dead and missing in the provinces of Nghe An, Kon Tum, Gia Lai and Dak Lak.

Nearly 730 houses collapsed, mainly in Quang Ngai and Quang Nam. Property damage is estimated to be 430 million USD.
