ASEAN Forum touches upon Hague conventions on international justice

Representatives from ASEAN countries, the Permanent Committee of the Hague Conference and the ASEAN Secretariat attended the event.

In his address, Deputy Minister of Justice Nguyen Khanh Ngoc said 4 ASEAN countries are members of the Hague Conference and ASEAN participated in 12 Hague conventions, creating the legal framework for cooperation on justice within ASEAN and between ASEAN member countries and others. At the forum, delegates focused on the 1965 Convention on the Service Abroad of Judicial and Extrajudicial Documents in Civil or Commercial Matters and the 1970 Convention on Taking of Evidence Abroad on Civil or Commercial Matters.

Vietnam became a member of the Hague Conference in 2013, participated in the Hague Convention in 1993 on Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Intercountry Adoption. Vietnam intends to sign up to other conventions of the Hague Conference concerning law and justice.
