ASEAN, China wish to early adopt Code of Conduct in East Sea

(VOVWORLD) - ASEAN and China have praised the significance of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and pledged efficient and practical completion of a Code of Conduct in the East Sea.

Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Le Thi Thu Hang told the press on Thursday that ASEAN and China have completed their first round of review and began the 2nd round of COC draft review towards its early finalization.
Ms Hang said: "ASEAN and Chinese leaders wish for a practical and efficient COC and its early finalization in line with international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea in order to contribute to peace, security and stability in the region and create a favorable environment for peaceful settlement of disputes in the East Sea."

The spokeswoman added that during the recent ASEAN China Summit in Cambodia, the leaders have discussed measures to promote ASEAN-China comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and the world.
