Soc Trang province has 11,000 volunteer blood donors and 19 volunteer blood donor clubs with 490 members.

Last year, Soc Trang organized 44 voluntary blood donations, got more than 8,000 people to participate, and collected 10,300 blood units, 1,500 units more than 2021.

In the first half of this year, 11 voluntary blood donation programs were organized, collecting 2,560 blood units.

Vo Thi Le Hang, a teacher at Long Phu A primary school in Long Phu district, has donated blood more than 30 times and was recently honored by the provincial Red Cross Society.

She recalled, “The first time I gave 250ml of blood. Since then I’ve increased to 350ml. I’ve donated blood regularly, every 4 months, without missing a single time. I teach twice a day. After each donation, I feel very strong. I’ve encouraged friends and colleagues to follow my example, and many of them have responded.”

To spread the movement more widely, Soc Trang’s Red Cross Society, the provincial steering committee for the voluntary blood donation campaign, has made plans, organized donations, and promoted the campaign via TV, radio, billboards, and posts on information webpages to raise public awareness.

Huynh Huu Bang, Secretary of the Youth Union of Long Phu town in Long Phu district and a role model in the voluntary blood donation movement, said that he has enthusiastically participated in voluntary blood donation programs organized by the district and called on union members to recognize the importance of donating blood to help those in need.

Do Van Tuan, Chairman of the provincial Red Cross Society, said the voluntary blood donation movement has received strong support from Party committees and administrations at all levels.

Each time they donate blood, donors get a free, comprehensive health exam and new, healthy blood, which benefits their own health, said Tuan, adding, blood donors receive a blood donation certificate that will enable them to receive free of charge, whenever it may be necessary, the same volume of blood they have donated.

“Best of all, donors bring joy and happiness to patients, their families, and society, and that’s extremely meaningful,” according to Tuan.

The provincial steering committee constantly promotes the role of Red Cross members and supports blood donors’ clubs. Each year outstanding donors are honored to encourage more people to join the blood donation campaign.
