Digital technology is becoming a driving economic sector, playing a leading role, and creating a foundation for the development of a digital economy, digital society, and digital government in Vietnam. In the first nine months of this year, Vietnam earned an estimated 118 billion USD from digital technology, up 18% from 2023.

The development of Vietnam's digital technology industry can be seen in the number of “Make in Vietnam” digital solutions that have been used in national digital transformation and in developing foreign markets.

1,500 Vietnamese digital technology enterprises are present in 33 countries. Last year, they  brought in a revenue of 7.5 billion USD from overseas market, which is likely to reach 10 billion USD next year. The companies are operating mainly in Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Myanmar, and the US.

VMO Holdings is one of the Vietnamese digital technology companies successfully going global. Since 2012, when mobile application development boomed, VMO Holdings’ co-founders – three young engineers keen on technology and developing small projects for foreign companies – established the company hoping to leverage the position of Vietnam's IT industry in the world.

Now VMO Holdings has 10 representative offices in foreign countries and 1,200 employees, according to Nguyen Khanh Diep, Deputy CEO of the company.

“VMO Holdings began to conquer the international market right from its inception, starting with the US. At that time, the digital transformation market in Vietnam was still quite new, while revenue and sales from foreign markets were very attractive,” Diep noted.

Also established in 2012, the Rikkeisoft Company specializes in providing IT services and solutions. In more than a decade, it has developed and exported many Make in Vietnam technology products, said Ha Huy Luan, Rikkeisoft’s Deputy General Director.

Luan told VOV, “Last year, Rikkeisoft's total revenue was 39 million USD, 80% of which came from the Japanese market, 10% from the European, American and Southeast Asian markets, and 10% from the domestic market. This year, our target is to gain 70% growth of our sales from the international market and maintain our high growth rate in the following years.”

The success of digital technology enterprises like VMO Holdings and Rikkeisoft has made Vietnam one of the Top 2 software outsourcing destinations in Southeast Asia in Kearney's Global Services Location Index.

Software and digital technology is one of the competitive advantages of Vietnamese enterprises domestically and internationally. The sustainable development of Vietnamese digital technology enterprises is based on ownership, development, and application of advanced technology tools, and the development of high-quality IT experts and engineers. Many companies have patented their AI products and won international awards.

Digital technology enterprises are pioneers in the “Go global” strategy and the “Make in Vietnam” initiative, creating technology products and solutions to address domestic and international issues. The efforts of the enterprises themselves and the support of the Ministry of Information and Communications and associations in the IT field is creating more opportunities for domestic businesses to expand into the world market.

Trieu Minh Long, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of Information and Communications, said that the Ministry of Information and Communications has implemented support programs for Vietnamese digital technology enterprises to expand their markets and tap  investment and business opportunities all over the world.

“The programs include the organization of conferences and forums at home and abroad, introduction booths, and programs to connect Vietnamese enterprises and their global partners,” Long added.

Vietnamese digital technology enterprises have been making the most of new technologies like semiconductors, blockchain, AI, and Internet of Things to create breakthroughs for Make in Vietnam products to go global.
