The exhibition delivers to the viewers a colorful art space. The artworks portraying a mother sewing clothes in the mist of a cozy family, or a mother holding her child in her arms with deep love, and many others, all portry moments of simple happiness and provoke deep sentiment in the viewer. Phan Van Tien, Director of Vietnam’s Fine Arts Museum, said: "The exhibition includes 77 paintings and sculptures represented in different materials - lacquer, oil on canvas, silk, wood and plaster by veteran artists such as Tran Van Can, Le Quoc Loc and artists from the subsequent generation including Tran Luu Hau and Huy Oanh. With their art techniques and their connection with this topic, the artists have sought to portray humane values and the real value of family connections in their work".

Many of the exhibits highlight the importance and the role of the mother, the strong female of family, and others have taken inspiration directly from family members such the mother, spouse or children. Painter Tran Hau Yen The, a lecturer from the Vietnam Fine Arts University said: "The exhibition “Source of Happiness” depicts family harmony, life and desires with paintings by several generations of painters. It also aims to pay tribute to the generation of golden artists such as Tran Van Can, Nguyen Trong Hop, Le Huy Hoa and even artists over the age of 60 or 70 such as Nguyen Quan, Pham Viet Hong Lam for their great contribution".

An education activity session involving viewers’ participation was also held as part of the exhibition. Viewers were invited to visit the exhibition and take part in group discussions with the artists. They were also given the chance to create paintings on the theme of family sentiment, or show their creativity in traditional crafts such as Dong Ho paintings, Bat Trang pottery or Chang Son paper fan. The event’s aim was to offer people, especially children the chance to understand more about art through exhibition’s displays. Tran Thi Lan Huong, Vice Principle of Nam Thanh Cong primary school, said: “The pupils have become involved with many activities and learnt a lot. This event is also useful for teachers such as ourselves. I hope the Vietnam Fine Art Museum will organize regular activities and invite schools to attend in the future. Our pupils will have opportunities to access many valuable documents, and it will help their further development".

The exhibition “Source of happiness” has heightened public awareness the value of happiness, and hopefully family members will respect and promote family values and the nation’s tradition. This is the basis of society and is important for education and human development, especially for children, who are the future of the nation. Nguyen Tuan Dat is a grade 5 pupil at Dong Do primary school in Hanoi: "The paintings reflect family happiness. Even if they are living in poverty, people still love each other and the family can be happy and cozy. We don’t have to feel deprived or difficulties. The painters expressed their feeling in their paintings perfectly. After viewing these paintings, I understand that I should treasure every moment with my family".
