In 2019, with the local agricultural sector having difficulty finding market outlets, Y Chon and other members of the Women’s Union set up Duc Nong cooperative to improve the situation. The cooperative generated stable jobs for 45 women, each earning an income of 4,000 USD per year.
After that initial success, Y Chon set up a pig-raising group, creating jobs for dozens of Women’s Union members. She said it has become a successful start-up model for local women.
“The group not only provides pork and breeding pigs, it also produces smoked pork which has been recognized as a product of the “One Commune, One Product” program. Our pork products have become popular in the market and are much sought after, especially at the Lunar New Year,” she said.
Dak Duc commune’s Women’s Union has launched many other models, including “Following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example”, “the Flower Path”, “Green Fence”, and “Turning garbage into money”.
Y Chon has also helped raise Union members’ awareness of defending the 8-kilometer border with Laos and maintaining social order and security in the locality.
“I was born in the border area, so I have always been aware of defending the border. We have worked with the Duc Nong border guard station to promote communications and advise local people not to follow hostile forces,” said Y Chon.

With a loan of 1 million USD from the Bank for Social Policies, Dak Duc commune’s Women’s Union has opened many vocational training and technology transfer courses, which has helped 590 local women improve their income and living standard. 22 women have managed to escape from poverty.
Ms. Y Phuong, Chairwoman of Kon Tum province’s Women’s Union, praised Y Chon’s contribution to local women’s movements, “Y Chon is very active and enthusiastic in many local Women’s Union movements. She always stays up-to-date and works closely with local authorities and organizations to improve the operation of the Union.”
For her great contribution, Y Chon has received many certificates of merit and was one of five outstanding individuals of Kon Tum province honored on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s Call for Patriotic Emulation.
