(VOVWORLD) - Po Lo Hu was born in the border district of Muong Te in the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau. Despite a difficult life, Hu has worked hard to encourage others to abandon backward customs and help them escape poverty.

Po Lo Hu was born and raised in Pa U commune. In 1991, when he was 10 years old, his family moved to Pha Bu, more than 60 kilometers from where he was born. Like many other La Hu ethnic minority people, Hu’s family often moved from place to place to earn their living.

“I had a difficult childhood. My grandparents and parents passed away early. My siblings and I lived far from each other and could not support each other. We lived a nomadic life and didn’t have enough food to eat. Things have changed now. People have settled down, lead a stable life, and have developed their production. The roads have been upgraded thanks to the State’s support. Now life is much easier,” said Hu.

As a Party member and head of Cha Ke hamlet, Po Lo Hu has done a lot to improve his family’s income and the local economy. Each year he harvests around 35 tons of rice. Hu now has hundreds of cows and buffalos, goats, and chickens, a fish pond, and dozens of hectares of ginseng, cardamom, bastard cardamom, and cinnamon.

“As a Party member, I try to be a role model in doing business, husbandry, and orchard farming and help local people develop their production and improve their lives,” he said

Hu has helped create jobs for many people, and is always ready to support those in need and share his own experience.

Ly Mo Nu, a resident of Pha Bu hamlet, said, “My family has escaped poverty thanks to Hu’s help. My children now go to school. Hu has also helped many other local people have a better life. We are delighted.”

From Hu’s farming model, many other models have been developed in other hamlets.

“Hu’s example in production development is very important in remote areas where people’s standard of living is low. He is a prestigious ethnic minority person. Hu’s example has encouraged many people to develop their own production,” said Pham Hong Binh, Deputy Secretary of Pa U commune’s Party Committee.

Thanks to Po Lo Hu’s efforts, the local poverty rate has dropped to 77%. Hu’s family is one of eight local households to receive a certificate of merit from Lai Chau province’s People’s Committee for studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality, and lifestyle.
