The activity followed the launching of the 2016 tree-planting movement by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to pay tribute to President Ho Chi Minh, who initiated the movement.

Ha Thi Hong Trang, Youth Union Secretary of Cam Thach commune, said: “it is my honor to participate in today’s tree-planting ceremony. I hope to see this area soon covered with green. The Youth Union will continue this activity in the future.”

Shortly after the Lunar New Year holiday, youth union members across Vietnam planted 200,000 trees at riverheads, on bare land, in coastal areas, and along urban roads.

Nguyen Dac Vinh, First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, said: “Youth Union members and local people have planted trees, mainly in residential areas, mangrove forests, and protective forests. The Union has distributed its communications on the importance of tree planting in association with economic development and environmental protection.”
