When the new year comes, Vietnamese people wish for good health, prosperity and a brighter future for the country. The Youth Union has launched a program to develop new models for young people in the development of a new cultural life. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thanh attends Ho Chi Minh City’s Law School. She said: “Students are influenced by massive political, social and economic impacts and have different views on their personal role models. We understand that of first and foremost is to respect the law and be fully aware of one’s responsibility in behavior.”

Doan Manh Hung of Hanoi Transport University says the new year is an opportunity to turn hope into reality: “I want to be a bridge and road engineer. This will contribute to the transport sector’s development and to national growth. I need to combine both theory and practice and try to start my career with lessons from successful predecessors.”

Young people want to contribute to national development and international integration. Former Minister of Trade Truong Dinh Tuyen says that young people will take charge of major missions when their aspiration is in line with national career: “Young people are facing more challenging life and work conditions. They can either join the state sector or start up their own career and dare to stand up against risks. If you have a practical view on business scale and model, you will be successful.”

Many young people have identified their own path with passion, patience and persistence to their targets. Nguyen Thanh Phuong is CEO of the Kangaroo group specializing in household goods. His company earned more than 920 billion dong despite economic difficulties last year. He wants to ship his products overseas this year: “We have developed an export strategy to turn Kangaroo into a leading company in Southeast Asia. We have exported safety boxes and hot water containers to the US.”

When spring comes, border guard soldiers turn their hearts and minds to the motherland, a source of encouragement for their mission. This Tet is the first for young soldier Nguyen Van Huy on Song Tu Tay Island in Truong Sa archipelago: “Marine soldiers are willing to sacrifice their Tet holiday to ensure a peaceful holiday for the people and protect the national sovereignty of the island. We will try our best to protect Vietnam’s territorial integrity on this continental shelf.”
