The festival includes a ritual to honor the country’s agriculture and pray for good weather, bumper crop, prosperity, peace and happiness. Participants can join folk games like human chess, and cock fighting. Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Vice Chairman of Mong Cai City’s People’s Committee, said: “The festival was first held 800 years ago to inspire patriotism and national pride and encourage a working spirit and joint efforts for national construction. The festival has been revived at the people’s request”.

The Xa Tac Temple Festival was revived in 2018.
