(VOVworld) – 100 countries have begun negotiations on a nuclear weapons ban treaty at the United Nations while facing boycott by 40 countries, including 5 world nuclear powers: the US, the UK, France, Russia, and China.

Nikki Haley, the US Ambassador to the United Nations, told 20 American allies prior to the negotiations that the US protests a global nuclear weapons ban with skepticism that whether countries favoring the ban understood the nature of global threats and whether North Korea would ban nuclear weapons.

This round of talks will conclude this Friday and the next round will open from mid June to early July in New York.
