Speaking in Geneva, WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic emphasized the organization’s crucial role in protecting global health and security, including for the American people. He called for constructive dialogue to maintain the partnership between the US and WHO.
The European Union (EU) also voiced concern, urging the US to carefully deliberate before finalizing the withdrawal.
German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach announced that Berlin would work to persuade President Trump to reverse the decision. Germany, the second-largest donor to the WHO, contributes approximately 3% of the organization’s funding.
In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that Beijing would continue to support the WHO regardless of the US decision.
