The agencies held a workshop in Hanoi on Friday to mark the International Day on Disaster Reduction on October 13. The United Nations has ranked Vietnam as the 6th hardest hit by natural disasters over the past decade. Natural calamities claimed nearly 500 deaths and a loss of 1.8 billion US dollars every year. Women played a significant role in disaster reduction through their efforts in food stockpiling and looking for safe places to store household assets. Delegates supported the participation of women and children in strengthening community’s role in coping with climate change impact.
