The theme of the competition organized by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) is "Imagine you are an ocean. Write a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you". After five months of launching, the Organizing Committee has received nearly 1.5 million entries from students nationwide.
First prize winner Khue said that because of her admiration for James Cameron, who directed and co-wrote Titanic in 1997, a sweeping romantic disaster film, and Avatar (2009), a science fiction film, she thought of a movie script about the ocean to send to the director.
“Through the letter, I want to convey the message that we need to raise awareness of protecting the ocean. Being the current young generation, we need to raise our responsibility and awareness in protecting the marine environment,” according to Khue
The First Prize winning entry is translated into English and French, representing Vietnam to compete in the international round.
Since 1971, the UPU has encouraged young writers aged 9-15 to write letters on a given theme to win exciting prizes.
